Briann and Miller find a quiet corner and "Doodle On"
Rooster has the lucky opportunity to work with Jan.
Together they "doodle on" as they " Walk the Line......" Jan was most helpful in making suggestions I can include in my daily training that will help to make Rooster stronger at his Levels. One of the powers of coaching is that they see and experience the things that become common place to us and often overlook. Starting today I am going to address Rooster's quick "pop up" after performing a sit or down and request a little more duration please. This, I believe may have resulted from my getting sloppy with "puppy push-ups" and just steaming through them
Oh, so many different smells; bird poop, and new surface.
We're getting ready to begin our day at Camp Rooster with warm-up exercises.

How interesting to contemplate ALL camp behaviors in terms of Doodling in a small space. That would make a LLW a series of smaller Doodles, TC (tennis court) Rally a chain of smaller Doodles, EVERYTHING a series of small Doodles.
Could the lesson learned be that a Doodle is a criteria within itself?

ReplyDeleteA beautiful connection between this pairing. And another way of coaching - working with someone else's dog. There is great value in watching your own dog interacting with someone else.
Of course, any dog's "pop up" should be and is controlled by the click. Sit until the click ends the behavior.
Something else this session brought to mind is: What does Down mean? Down: Level 1 states:"The dog downs from a Sit or Stand". Not until Down: Level 4 must the dog "down from a Stand". BUT what is a down? Here I see Rooster's Down meaning: Sit then Down. IOW, whatever position Rooster is in when the Down cue is given, does Rooster think that he must sit first before he downs? Or was that just unique to this particular Flip? And does it matter at this level?
This is not a criticism. It is just an observation. And, once again, a determination of CRITERIA. I'd be interested in what Cathy notices as she continues w/Sit: L2....which addresses cueing and weaning from treats and doesn't mention the actual Down.
